"Where do you get that figure? It's been a while since I registered to vote but I do not recall the form here in MD asking about my employment status..."
I know you can't see the actual tables but this is from a study conducted by CNN.:
Here is a list, according to CNN Money of the states with Unemployment Rates higher than the current average of 6.1%. Scoopthis added data involving the political makeup of each state based upon this table from www . polidata . org:
40 SOUTH CAROLINA 6.2 R epublican
41 KENTUCKY 6.3 Republican
42 DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA 6.4 Democrat
42 NEVADA 6.4 Republican
44 TENNESSEE 6.5 Democrat
45 OHIO 6.6 Republican
46 ALASKA 6.8 Republican
46 ILLINOIS 6.8 Democrat
48 CALIFORNIA 6.9 Democrat
48 MISSISSIPPI 6.9 Democrat
50 RHODE ISLAND 7.5 Democrat
51 MICHIGAN 8.5 Democrat
As you can see from the above table, 40% of the states with the highest unemployment rates are controlled by Republicans while 60% are controlled by Democrats.
By comparison, here is a table of the 10 states with the lowest unemployment rates:
1 SOUTH DAKOTA 2.8 Republican
2 NORTH DAKOTA 3.2 Republican
2 UTAH 3.2 Republican
2 WYOMING 3.2 Republican
5 NEBRASKA 3.3 Republican
6 HAWAII 3.8 Democrat
6 IDAHO 3.8 Republican

"One thing we know as Republicans is our base will show to the polls the Obama base will have many who no show election day..."
The one thing that we do know is the Republican base has shrunk -- it was never a real majority anyway. Now its down to the hard core. Yes they will turn out but they will be hard pressed to hold all the Red states let alone capture Blue states. Virginia is going Blue. North Carolina is leaning Obama. Missisippi may elect a Dem Senator. Georgia is only "leaning" McCain. South Dakota and Montana are in a virtual tie. Colorado and NM have turned blue, Nevada may be right behind them.
I believe it was over when McCain couldn't remember how many houses he owns!

From Chuck Todd, Mark Murray, Domenico Montanaro, and Carrie Dann
*** The map 50 days out: The Palin bounce has erased Obama's lead in the national polls, and it has now cut into his electoral-vote advantage, according to NBC’s latest map. Obama holds a 233-227 edge here, down from his 228-200 advantage from last week. The biggest changes: We moved Florida -- with its 27 electoral votes -- from Toss-up to Lean McCain, and New Mexico from Toss-up to Lean Obama. We also shifted Oregon and Washington from Likely Obama to Lean Obama, as well as Alaska, Georgia, North Dakota and South Dakota from Lean McCain to Likely McCain. The good news for McCain is that the map looks better for him than at any point so far in this race, and many of those red states that looked like opportunities for Obama (AK, GA, IN) look to be longer shots for him. The bad news for McCain is that given the wave his campaign has been riding from the Palin bounce, is this as good as it gets? If he isn’t leading in some states now, he might not ever lead in them. Bottom line: You'll know the map is starting to move in one direction or the other if either Pennsylvania or Florida moves back into Toss-up before Election Day.
